Best Mentor for Crude Oil Trading in India (2026)? Ask These 10 Questions First

Quick answer: MCX crude follows the US WTI price, jumps on the Wednesday EIA inventory report and on OPEC+ news, and moves with the rupee. A mentor worth paying explains all of that, then spends just as long on position size, because one bad evening in crude can undo a month. They should teach you to make your own decisions, not send you levels. If you're new, start on Crude Oil Mini or on paper.

The questions below work on any mentor.

Crude oil is the commodity many Indian traders try first, mainly because it moves a lot in the evening session after office hours. That's exactly why it burns accounts. A mentor's real job is to slow you down.

What moves MCX crude oil

Driver

When

What to know

NYMEX WTI price

All session

MCX crude is cash-settled against WTI, so it follows US prices

Wednesdays, 10:30 am US Eastern (about 8 pm IST in US summer, 9 pm in winter)

The inventory number vs expectations causes sharp moves

OPEC+ meetings and statements

Scheduled and ad hoc

Supply decisions can gap prices

Geopolitics

Any time

Middle East and Russia news can move crude in minutes

USDINR

All session

A weaker rupee raises MCX crude in rupee terms

Five things that move MCX crude oil and when: NYMEX WTI price, the weekly EIA petroleum report on Wednesdays, OPEC+ meetings, geopolitics, and the USDINR exchange rate

Size your trades before you learn setups

MCX lists Crude Oil (100 barrels) and Crude Oil Mini (10 barrels), quoted in rupees per barrel. A ₹50 move, which is common in a volatile evening, is ₹5,000 on the full contract and ₹500 on the mini. If that ₹5,000 is more than 2% of your account, the full contract isn't for you yet. Check MCX for current margins.

What a crude oil mentor should teach

  • Reading the economic calendar for EIA, OPEC+ and US data.

  • How to trade the EIA release, or how to stay flat through it. Both are valid; the mentor should explain when each makes sense.

  • One written setup (for example, demand and supply zones) with stop and size defined first.

  • How crude behaves around expiry and rollover.

  • Natural gas differences: it has its own weekly storage report and moves even faster.

  • A trade journal with screenshots and a weekly review.

Mentor or signal seller? A quick check

A mentor

A signal seller

Explains why a trade fits the plan

Sends "Buy crude 6,420, SL 6,380"

Shows losing trades in reviews

Shows only profit screenshots

Wants you independent in months

Wants a monthly subscription forever

Talks about position size first

Talks about targets first

A mentor who only teaches shouldn't be selling calls or levels at all.

10 questions to ask before you pay

A 15-minute call tells you a lot about a crude oil mentor. These are the questions we'd ask, roughly in this order, and what to listen for.

Open with risk: what's the most you should risk on one crude trade? You want a number, usually 1 to 2% of capital. "It depends on the setup" isn't an answer. Then ask which contract to begin on with your account size. A careful mentor points you to Crude Oil Mini or paper trading and tells you what a normal move is worth in rupees. Anyone who sends a beginner straight to the 100-barrel contract hasn't thought about your account.

Ask what they do on EIA Wednesdays. There should be a plan for the release, and sometimes that plan is to stay out. Be wary of "that's when we make the most money". Ask to see losing trades, too. Someone who teaches properly will show you a few and walk through what went wrong, while a feed of profit screenshots tells you nothing. And ask plainly whether they give tips, calls or levels anywhere, Telegram included. The only good answer is no. "Only for premium members" means yes.

Two knowledge checks help. How does the rupee affect a crude trade? They should explain USDINR with a quick example rather than wave it away. Can they show you the syllabus, module by module? Risk and contract basics belong early, and "we'll cover everything live" usually means there's no plan.

The last three questions are about what happens after you pay. Who reviews your trades, and how often? Look for a named person and a regular format, not "join the community group". Can you try a full lesson or a free course first? A short webinar that turns into a sales pitch doesn't count. And what's the refund policy, in writing, before you pay? "Seats are filling fast, pay today" is a red flag on its own.

If you've counted five or more red flags, walk away. If a mentor passes, start one contract size smaller than you think you can handle, journal every trade and review after a month.

Frequently asked questions

Who is the best mentor for crude oil trading in India?

The right one explains WTI, the EIA report, OPEC+ and the rupee, teaches position sizing on MCX contracts, reviews losing trades openly and doesn't sell signals. Compare a few using the checklist above and a free lesson before paying anyone.

Can beginners learn crude oil trading?

Yes, but crude is volatile. Learn chart basics and stop losses first, start with Crude Oil Mini or paper trading, and watch a few EIA Wednesdays without trading to see how price reacts.

Does the academy cover inventory strategies?

Yes. The International Commodity Market Course with AI covers how to read the weekly EIA inventory report against expectations, and how to plan around it, including when to stay out.

Is there any AI integration in this course?

AI tools are used to summarise news and data and help with research. Trade decisions stay rule-based and yours; AI doesn't predict prices or place trades.

How can I join the course?

Visit the International Commodity Market Course with AI page for current details, or try the free stock market course first. Support is on toll-free 1800-202-8034.

Which is the best crude oil trading course in India?

Look for one that teaches a process you can repeat: what moves crude (WTI, the weekly EIA report, OPEC+ and the rupee), demand-supply price action for entries, and position sizing from the stop-loss, with no tips. At Mentor Aditya Jain Academy, crude oil is taught this way inside the International Commodity Market Course with AI.

Is crude oil mentorship worth paying for?

It can be, if the mentor teaches a written method and risk rules and reviews your trades. It isn't worth paying for signals dressed up as mentorship. Use the ten questions above and a free lesson to decide.

How long does it take to learn crude oil trading?

Most people need a few months of study and small-size practice before they understand how crude behaves around EIA reports and OPEC+ news. Treat the first three months as learning, not earning.

Can I learn crude oil trading part-time?

Yes, and the timing helps. MCX's evening session carries on late into the night, so you can study and practise after work. The danger is that it turns into every night. Pick a few evenings a week, decide when you'll stop, and just watch EIA Wednesdays until you have a plan for them.
