US Stock Market Timings in IST (2026): What Changes After 1 November
Quick answer: From Monday 2 November 2026, the regular US stock market session on NYSE and Nasdaq runs from 8:00 PM to 2:30 AM IST. Until Friday 30 October, it runs from 7:00 PM to 1:30 AM IST. The exchanges haven't changed their hours. The US moves its clocks back an hour on Sunday 1 November, when daylight saving time ends, and India doesn't change its clocks, so the US session starts an hour later for us.
Below are the hours in New York time, the same hours in IST before and after the change, what pre-market and after-hours mean, and the US market holidays left in 2026. Every time here comes from the exchanges' own pages and from NIST, the US agency that keeps official time.
US market hours in New York time
NYSE and Nasdaq list the same regular session: 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time (ET), Monday to Friday.
Around it sit the extended sessions. Nasdaq lists pre-market trading from 4:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. ET and after-hours trading from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. ET. NYSE Arca, one of NYSE's markets, uses the same 4:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. limits. Brokers set their own extended-hours windows, and many offer a shorter one, so check yours.
US market timings in IST, before and after 1 November
Session | Until Fri 30 Oct | From Mon 2 Nov |
|---|---|---|
Pre-market | 1:30 PM – 7:00 PM | 2:30 PM – 8:00 PM |
Regular session | 7:00 PM – 1:30 AM | 8:00 PM – 2:30 AM |
After-hours | 1:30 AM – 5:30 AM | 2:30 AM – 6:30 AM |
All times are IST. The regular session and after-hours run past midnight in India, so they end on the next calendar day. For example, Monday's US session opens at 8:00 PM IST on Monday and closes at 2:30 AM IST on Tuesday.
Why the time changes in India
The US uses daylight saving time (DST) and India doesn't. According to NIST, DST in 2026 runs from 8 March at 2 a.m. to 1 November at 2 a.m., local time.
During DST, New York is on Eastern Daylight Time, 4 hours behind UTC. IST is 5 hours 30 minutes ahead of UTC, so New York is 9 hours 30 minutes behind India.
After DST ends, New York goes back to Eastern Standard Time, 5 hours behind UTC. The gap with India becomes 10 hours 30 minutes.
1 November 2026 is a Sunday, when US markets are closed anyway, so the first trading day on the new IST times is Monday 2 November. US clocks go forward again on the second Sunday of March, which is 14 March 2027. From Monday 15 March 2027, the regular session goes back to 7:00 PM to 1:30 AM IST.
Pre-market and after-hours: what to know
Extended hours aren't the same as the regular session. Nasdaq itself points out that extended-hours trading carries risks: volatility tends to be much higher and there's less liquidity, meaning fewer people are trading and prices can move much more sharply.
Two practical points if you're following US markets from India:
Your broker decides whether you can trade in extended hours, and for how long. Its window may be shorter than the exchange's.
Prices you see in pre-market or after-hours can look very different once the regular session opens, because far fewer orders are being matched.
If you're still learning, the regular session is the simplest place to watch how US stocks behave, because that's when most trading happens.
US market holidays and early closes left in 2026
NYSE and Nasdaq publish the same holiday calendar. For the rest of 2026, it looks like this:
Date (US) | Market | Hours in IST |
|---|---|---|
Thu 26 Nov | Closed (Thanksgiving) | No session |
Fri 27 Nov | Early close, 1:00 PM ET | 8:00 PM – 11:30 PM |
Thu 24 Dec | Early close, 1:00 PM ET | 8:00 PM – 11:30 PM |
Fri 25 Dec | Closed (Christmas) | No session |
On the two early-close days, NYSE says the late trading sessions on NYSE Arca, NYSE American, NYSE National and NYSE Texas end at 5:00 p.m. ET, which is 3:30 AM IST the next morning. After Christmas, the next listed holiday is New Year's Day, Friday 1 January 2027.
US and Indian holidays don't match. NSE can be open on a US holiday and closed on a day when New York is trading, so check both calendars if you follow both markets.
How US hours line up with the Indian market
NSE's normal market runs from 9:15 AM to 3:30 PM IST. That means the two regular sessions never overlap, before or after the change. The only overlap is with US pre-market: from 2 November, US pre-market opens at 2:30 PM IST, during the last hour of NSE trading.
What happens in New York overnight is one of the global cues Indian traders read the next morning. If you want to learn how US and Indian markets connect, our Global Stock Market Course with AI (Indian + US markets) covers both.
